U16C Hockey Match report Week 1 2018

The girls got off to a good start keeping much of the possession in the first half, and passing accurately and confidently. Anabel Witting’s stick work was particularly effective and before too long she was to score two goals. We were awarded several penalty corners and Anabel injected the ball accurately for her attacker, resulting in several near misses. When the ball did come into our defensive half, Bethany Davis and Liv Murray Smith were quick to clear the ball from the danger zone, and their accurate, strong hitting resulted in some very quick turnovers. By the end of the second half Oakham were leading by 5 goals.

During the second half the girls again had most of the possession but at times rushed the shot. Our defenders had more to do as Bromsgrove upped their game and succeeded in getting the ball into their circle. Fortunately for us their shots at goal lacked accuracy and they failed to score. The following players all managed to score: Teni Akinyosoye; Florence Verdon; Freya Landy and LuLu Furber(2) making the final score 7-0 to Oakham. A great start! Oakham will need to ensure that they keep their formation in the coming matches and must try to send the ball out wide to open up the game.
