Venue: Away

Oundle U14 (19) - (14) Oakham U14

Saturday 10 November - Laxton Pitches

On Saturday 10th November Oakham School arrived in Northamptonshire to play a strong Oundle School. As we arrived the clouds looking very menacing. Sure enough, the rain poured down and the first 15 minutes of the game were played in heavy rain, making the ball hard to grasp. Oakham had a slow start, with Oundle scoring two successive tries, and this would prove to be our downfall later on. However this didn’t knock the team’s confidence, and only made us play harder and even better. Oakham fought back and scored a brilliant try. The momentum shifted towards Oakham, and we were playing some good rugby. There was good support, and we were making good breaks. However, so were Oundle, in a game like a tennis match. Halftime came, with the score at 12-5 to Oundle. The boys knew that they’d need to leave everything on the pitch if they were going to win this game. Oakham had a very near try, however the referee deemed the ball held up. Despite our best efforts, Oundle scored another try, un-converted. Then, the game became more balanced again, the Oakham boys were working incredibly hard, with Will Middleton making some brilliant runs out on the wing. Oakham finished with a final flourish, with Toby Cousins scoring a try in the last play; leaving the final score at 19-14 to Oundle. A great way to finish the match, well done boys; a great job- nevermind the score, it was a great performance.
