Stamford vs Oakham u15a Won 7-1

This game was a very pleasing way to end the half-term. During the four days leading into the match 6 players were withdrawn from the squad because of Drama, illness, missing lessons and a concussion. All of this meant was that some of the girls who haven't had so much pitch time so far this term could get a full game, and we could welcome Katie and Emily into the team for the first time.

During the first half we played some very nice attacking play, whilst controlling the midfield. At the back the defensive unit of Annabelle, Amy, Tabby, Zara and Lauren put a stop to any Stamford attack with their marking, channelling and tackling. Our second goal was very encouraging with our captain Jess showing great composure to tee Millie up for a nice open goal on the right hand post.

After a team talk and a few challenges given for the second half the girls worked really hard to control the second half of the match too. The main challenge was to limit the times we hit the ball, passing the ball with any other method to other girls in our team. This worked on the whole and all seven goals scored were with a pass, slap or tap in by girls linking up which was great to see. The other main encouraging factor to this game was that we didn't concede a short corner which bodes well for the future.

Joint man of the match awards go to Millie Barton for 4 goals, Jess Sheldon for overall dominance in the match and Amy Riddlesdell for a very strong performance at right half.

Well done. WD1
