U16A v Rugby School - Away … Won 1-0 (Malyon)

The girls prepared well in the week, and our match prep on the day was excellent. We started after 4pm just as the temperature plummeted, the girls set about their task well, it is never easy fixture away at Rugby … after two of three early chances which were frustratingly close but saved, Becca Malyon took her chance scoring what turned out to be the one and only goal of the game.

At half time we spoke about outletting the ball better to get the ball wider and getting the forwards stacking higher to stretch the field … the girls did play much better in the second half, creating numerous chances and winning five penalty corners - which normally is a strength, but we misfired today - blaming the cold, excuses, excuses ! Ten minutes to go we got properly done on the break, and a shot fired across our bows missing the back post area by a millimetre. This finally woke us up and we stepped up a gear, the last ten was much more comfortable, we should have scored three, at one point we had two forwards with the ball versus the Rugby goal keeper all alone - she made some outstanding saves throughout the game, which made it such an entertaining game for the spectators.

A hard fought away win, overall our performance showed good spirit and hard graft.

Player of the match was Emma Wardrop.
