On: Saturday, 08 Sep 2018
Venue: at Home

Saturday the 8th of September. The infamous Oakham 3rd XV against Uppingham; they don't get much bigger than this!

The atmosphere was booming as Uppingham travelled to O town to take part in the most hotly anticipated game of the season. The Oakham boys were on the boil after a stirring pre match team talk from BJE.

Oakham came flying out of the blocks with great link play between forwards and backs to see Ben Barton score under the posts. Relentless pressure led to Oakham running in several more tries in quick succession with Nick Kimber slicing through the defence to score two, as well as Sam Turner, Luke Moule, and Ben Barton once again, all adding to Oakham's increasing lead. As the first half came to a close the dominance of the home team was sure to be on the Uppinghamians' minds; was a come back on the cards?

As the drizzle fell in second half the men in White and Blue had gained some new found energy creating a nervous 20 minutes for the Oakham boys as they defended on their try line. However, Oakham's grit and determination shone through as they exploited the fringes with excellent pick and drive work from the forward pack resulting in Dom Baillie, Will McCallum and Theo Malcolm powering over the line. A sudden urge of white line fever saw the backs move the ball quickly across the pitch allowing Felix Abbott to run in a try in the corner. One for the future, Barney Fox, produced some sterling footwork and a cracking sidestep to score for Oakham in last play securing a tremendous victory!
