Oakham U14 (24) vs (21) Finborough U14

Saturday 6th October - Doncaster Close

On Saturday 6th of October- on the 1st 15 pitch, the U14 As took part in a very tightly contested match with Finborough.

This was a very skilled team; who had beaten Stamford, whom we had lost to. But, after a superb match against Felsted, the boys knew that we had a good chance to come away with a win. Throughout the 1st half, the game was rather even, with players from both Oakham and Finborough braking the lines, and subsequently scoring some tries.

At half time, the score was 12-7 to Oakham. The boys were pleased with their lead, but knew that the match was no where near won yet. The second half began, and we managed to keep the score line the same, but our work rate began to drop and we let Finborough score a try. This put more pressure on us, and we knew we needed to improve our work rate. However, Finborough played some clever kicks and scored another try. This put us behind with just 1 minute to go. But, after a strong receive and team effort up the pitch, we had a line out in the top right corner of the field. It was the last play, and after many efforts, we finally broke the lines for a try. This left the final score 24-21 to Oakham. Tries were scored by Will Murray with 1 and Toby Cousins with 3. Conversions by George Bland. The team’s work rate was outstanding , and we came away with a well deserved win. We look forward to a good game against Uppingham next week.
