U16 National Cup Round 1 vs Oundle - Away: Won 3-2 (Wardrup, Malyon, Norwood)

After our weekend victory against Oundle our cup draw boded well for us ... 6 junior players joined our squad adding good depth to our squad. The girls started well, for 15 minutes we looked comfortable and probed the Oundle defence, scoring a super goal after some lovely movement and early passing won us our first penalty corner which was dispatched by Emma Wardrup.

But this seemed to ignite Oundle into action and they tactically caught us out, undoing our press and their unusual Strikers stack rattled our Back 4 and we found ourselves 2-1 down at half time.

We rallied and from the onset pushed Oundle hard. Our equaliser came through a great midfield pass by India Norwood to the pacey Izzy Skelton who drove into the circle resulting in the Oundle defender lunging desperately bring Izzy down - the resulting penalty stroke was coolly dispatched by Captain Becca Malyon. Neutral umpires was an absolute blessing, week in week out school umpires aren't brave enough to give a penalty stroke - even when it is as clear as this one was.

At 2-2 Oakham were in the driving seat, Rose Cassidy's switch to Centre Half turned out to be a Klopp genius move, she bossed the centre of the park and played in the same vein as Milner does. We played some lovely hockey at times, and as our junior and seniors started to gel together and grow in confidence, the winner came created by some wonderful team play which put India Norwood into the circle and she took her chance thumping the ball into the net from the top right of the circle.

A very pleasing result, a good reaction by the girls at half time, I think they all have learnt a lot from this sporting experience.
