Oakham School U14 cricket team have been crowned champions at the County Cricket Finals against Leicester Grammar School, which was held at the Oakham Cricket Club. They will now represent Leicestershire in the Lord’s Taverners national cricket competition in 2019.

In what was a tight match, with the game being played in almost complete rainfall, the Oakham team managed to field well and defend 10 runs in the final over to win by the narrowest margin.

During the compelling game, Oakham School made 88-1 in their 10 overs that included 37 runs for Freddie (Form 4), 20 runs for William (Form 4) and 15 runs for Alex (Form 4) .

Director of Cricket Neil Johnson said, “I am so proud of the boys. It was a tough match but they played brilliantly as a team. They not only coped with the adverse weather conditions but they also played well under pressure.”

The win caps off a fantastic season for Oakham Cricket with the U15A team also victorious at the County Cricket finals earlier in the year.

Oakham School has also recently seen the return of County Cricket being played on its exceptional grounds with Lancashire Lightning playing against the Foxes (Leicestershire CCC) in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
