Oakham School Boys-U18C vs  Old Oakhamians

Venue: at Home

The annual matches against the Old Oakhamians saw a festival of football at Wilson Fields under sunny January skies and before a not insignificant crowd.

In the premier match, a superb contest saw supremacy ebb and flow, with the OOs 1-0 up at HT, the school take a 2-1 lead through a Matthews penalty and a Lewin own goal on the hour, only for the OOs to take the Ed Farmer trophy thanks to an impudent back heel from Vlasenko and a confident finish from Thorpe (his second of the match).

The 2nd XI was a more one sided affair with ‘foot in both camps’ Jarvis grabbing a brace in a comprehensive OO victory.

Meanwhile, in a footballing first, a 2-1 victory to the OOs in the 3rd XI game nevertheless went to a penalty shoot out, as all good games should.

A clean sweep to the OOs then, but the real winner was Oakham

Football on a memorable afternoon of sport and camaraderie. Director of Sport, Iain Simpson, nicely summed up the spirit of the day in his words at the trophy presentation after the game, as the sun set behind the Wilson pavilion.
