Lower 1 cross country runners put in some top individual and team performances at the Rutland Primary Schools Cross Country Event, held at Sykes Lane, Rutland Water. Particular congratulations go to Lottie, Emma, Matilda, and Otto, who have all been selected to represent Rutland at the Country Championships in February as a result.

Assistant Director of Sport (Boys), Trefon Vandoros, tells us more:

“Well done to all the runners, both girls and boys. They competed in tough conditions – a heavy downpour, long grass, and an endless hill to the finish that would be a challenge to most runners – yet they demonstrated determination, grit and resilience in every step.

In the Girls U11 team, Lottie was inspirational and determined from start to finish with 1st place in her mind all the way. Emma and Matilda were not far behind, bringing in good points for their team. The girls earned a well-deserved 1st place to retain the shield from last year.

The Boys U11 team displayed equal amounts of effort and vigour and achieved an honourable team 3rd place.

Such gutsy performances by everyone who took part in the event – I am very proud of them all.”
