Success for Oakham's Rugby Players!

It has been another successful season for Oakham’s rugby players, both past and present.

Old Oakhamian (OO) Jack van Poortvliet (19) has been named in the England U20 squad, and Sam Wolstenholme (18) made his Wasps debut against Saracens in the Premiership Cup as well as his European debut away at Bordeaux Begles.

Fellow OOs Sam Costelow (19) and Cameron Jordan (19) have made their European debuts with Leicester Tigers against the Cardiff Blues in the 2nd round of the European Challenge Cup, helping their team to beat Cardiff. (11-14). In addition, OO Tyrese Johnson-Fisher (18) has been signed up with the Premiership Club Bristol Bears.

Meanwhile, Oakham’s 1st XV has seen some impressive wins: beating Oundle 40-17, Bedford 52-0 and Solihull 51-13. They are now looking forward to their remaining games of the term against Stowe and St Peter’s York.

Oakham’s Vice Captain, Form 7 pupil Harry, played for Leicester Tigers AXV side v Gloucester last Monday at Kingsholm.

The U15 team have also been celebrating having beaten Warwick in the 4th round of the NatWest Cup, beating both Stamford and Trent to get there.

Oakham School have welcomed back Old Oakhamians Jack van Poortvliet and Sam Costelow alongside fellow Tigers player James Whitcombe, who all helped to coach the U13A rugby squad.

Moreover, Wigan Warriors Rugby League star Mick Cassidy, who has played over 450 first-team games for Widnes and Wigan and has also played for Great Britain, gave a coaching session to the U14s, the U16s and Seniors. His tips and training drills helped the 1st XV with their win over Solihull.
